Captain’s Corner

May 22, 2012 – Well…..we’ve seen some nice weather and then we’ve seen some not so nice weather.  Course conditions are improving with the better weather and we all look forward to the improved playing conditions.

Regardless of the weather and course conditions, we had 72 participants at the 2012 Men’s Opener and we have been seeing over 30 people at the last couple of Thursday Men’s Nights. That is a great turnout so early in the season! As a bonus, the 50/50 draws at all these events have been very beneficial for the lucky winners. You know who you are!!!!

The Men’s Club Committee has been actively recruiting sponsors for the Thursday Men’s Night events and I’m pleased to announce we only have one or two dates left. To all the sponsors that have confirmed their dates, please accept my thanks on behalf of the Swan-e-set Men’s Club and its membership. Without your generous participation, everyone would be negatively impacted. I encourage all the Men’s Club membership to actively join the Thursday Men’s Night events to enjoy the golf, evening dinner and prizes…..who knows maybe you’ll be the next 50/50 winner.

On the subject of handicaps….please be aware the Men’s Club Handicap Committee is being very diligent this year to insure scores are entered in a timely manner and handicaps are validated before Men’s Club events. This has already caused problems for some members that “forgot” to enter scores over the last 12-18 month period. It’s no fun playing to a “0” handicap, which will be the case this year, if you don’t enter your scores. If you don’t know how to enter your scores in the Golf Canada system, please contact the Pro Shop or any member of the Men’s Club Committee. We’re all happy to help get you started.

Lastly there are two events on the horizon; Saturday May 26th – White & Yellow Mixed Club Tournament and Saturday June 16th – Captain’s Cup. The website contains details about both tournaments and I encourage all members to consider participation in both these fun events.

See you on the course!

April 20, 2012 – Well, it’s now the end of April and both courses have been aerated and top seeded. Hopefully there will be some good weather to help both courses get back into top shape.

The Men’s Club Committee is actively procuring sponsors for Thursday Men’s Nights and we will shortly have our first Tournament of the year – Men’s Opener – May 5th. I encourage all of you to participate in this first event of the year. There are thousands of dollars of prizes up for grabs so make up your foursome and contact the Pro Shop to register. Don’t forget to register at the Pro Shop for the first Thursday Men’s Night – May 10th……sponsored by the Swan-e-set Men’s Club.

Saturday May 12th is the Match Play Seeding Qualification event. If you cannot play on May 12th, but still want to play in the Match Play Tournament, sign up anyway!  You will get a bottom seed position by default.  You will then have to win an extra match to get your seed position within the top 32 spots.  Hopefully this will allow those members with previous commitments on May 12th to still participate in Match Play.

As we begin the season, a friendly reminder of some old recurring issues:

  • Men’s Morning – Remember to contact the Pro Shop by Wednesday evening to register for these weekend events. The Pro Shop allocates tee times on Thursday so don’ t be surprised if you “just show up” on the weekend and can’t find a spot
  • Tee Time Booking – If you book multiple tee times, please make sure you phone the Pro Shop and cancel those that you can’t fill. This is a courtesy to the Pro Shop so they can maximize bookings whenever possible.
  • Course Etiquette – Remember, as a Men’s Club member, it is mandatory you repair your ball/pitch marks on the greens and rake any sand trap that you enter. This is not optional and helps keep the course in top shape. Feel free to report anybody not complying with these rules to the Pro Shop.
  • Handicaps – As we approach Men’s Opener and Match Play Seeding Qualification events, remember to post all your scores. Check the Match Play rule changes on the website to ensure you are aware of your responsibilities.

Enjoy the season…..see you on the course!!
